COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team had a solid day to conclude play Sunday at the Air Force Invitational.
Sasa Nemcova and the doubles team of Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs came out on top in each of their brackets.
In singles play, Nemcova earned a tough three set victory, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, over Julia Metzer to win her draw. Sarah Summerfield defeated Laura Neal, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (3) in her back draw match as did Carly Van Hollen over Amy Shipperd, 6-4, 6-0. Paloma Navarro,however, fell short in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0, to Allie Wahba of Colorado in her finals match.
In doubles play, the team of Berger and Kovacs defeated Rudico and Molina, 8-4 to win their draw. The other team in action Summerfield and Van Hollen earned an 8-3 victory over Cecil and Monreal of Air Force in the finals of the back draw.
The Cowgirls will have a couple of weeks off before they head to the Central Regional Tournament, Oct. 14-19, in Las Vegas.
