The University of Wyoming hockey club's midseason slump continued last weekend with a pair of losses to the United States Air Force Academy club team.
The Cowboys fell 5-1 Friday at the Laramie Community Ice Arena and 5-3 Saturday at the Taco John's Events Center in Cheyenne to slip to 11-11 on the season. UW has lost five consecutive games by a combined score of 32-11.
In Friday's setback, Michael Leriger (Houston, Texas) scored the Cowboys' lone goal, assisted by Ryan Tufte (Jackson) and Brandon Moore (Littleton, Colo.).
UW lost its home finale Saturday despite two goals by Graham Barrett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and two assists by Erik Blomberg (Parker, Colo.). Rick Comer (Gillette) netted the Cowboys' other goal.
This weekend, UW wraps up its regular season with a two-game series against Colorado College (6-10-1) at Honnen Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The following weekend, Feb. 13-15, the Cowboys will compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division III Pacific Regional Tournament at Sioux Center, Iowa. The top two finishers at regionals will qualify for the ACHA National Tournament, March 4-8 in Rochester, N.Y.
