The University of Wyoming continued a nine-game, three-city homestand last weekend with a win over Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and a loss against Colorado State University (CSU).
Fronted by Tad Bernet (Katy, Texas), who totaled six points on four goals and two assists, the Cowboys routed the Orediggers 10-2 Friday night at the Laramie Community Ice Arena. UW fell 12-2 to the Border War rival Rams Saturday night at the Taco John's Events Center in Cheyenne.
In their first game since splitting a two-game series against Montana State University Oct. 24-25 at the Casper Ice Arena, the Cowboys outshot CSM 59-26 and reached double digits in goals for the second time this season.
Zach Jacobson (Parker, Colo.) contributed his first two goals of the season for UW, and Graham Barrett (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Elliott Bauder (Douglas), Erik Blomberg (Parker, Colo.) and Rick Comer (Gillette) also netted goals.
Bauder and Cody Leeper (Jackson) each had two assists. Comer, Craig Luplow (Sheridan) and David Wilcox (Houston, Texas) also assisted on goals.Drew Luplow (Sheridan) stopped 24 of 26 shots in goal to earn his second victory of the season.
The Cowboys, a Division III member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, were overwhelmed by Division II CSU in their second game of the weekend. The Rams, who peppered the UW net with 51 shots, scored seven times in the first two periods to put the game out of the reach.
Barrett and Wilcox scored goals for the Cowboys, while Bernet, Leeper and Willy Miller (Arvada, Colo.) recorded assists.
UW (5-3) plays three games this weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. Friday faceoff against South Dakota State University in Laramie. The Cowboys' weekend slate also includes matchups against Dordt College of Iowa (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.) and the University of San Diego (Sunday, 1 p.m.) in Cheyenne.
