UW equestrian team fares well

by UW Media Relations

The University of Wyoming equestrian club, fronted by Elizabeth Kinnally and Megan Koltiska, turned in a strong performance last weekend at a hunter seat riding show at Helicon Show Stables near Denver.

UW placed fourth Saturday and finished second Sunday at the 10-team Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event.

"They rode like a million dollars," UW Coach Kari Randle said. "I was so proud of all of them."

Kinnally, a sophomore from Westwood, N.J., placed in both of her classes (intermediate over the fences and open flat) on both days and was high point rider during Sunday's show. She also became the first UW rider to qualify this season for the regional championships.

Competing in her hometown of Parker, Colo., Koltiska, a freshman, helped UW with stellar showings on both days in intermediate flat and novice jumping.

UW also received key contributions from Kristen Erickson (Moorhead, Minn.), Mccabe Jones (Dillon, Colo.) and team president Brittany Waltz (Anchorage, Alaska), Randle said.

UW returns to IHSA competition this weekend at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, the team's only in-state show this season.
