The University of Wyoming soccer team will look to defend its home field this Friday for the first time against Hartford at 4 p.m. The Cowgirls will also host Western Michigan on Sunday at noon.

"We are excited to open the home portion of our schedule with two quality opponents in Hartford and Western Michigan," said head coach Danny Sanchez. "Both of these teams did well in their conference play last fall so we know they will be tests for us to see where we are at."

The Cowgirls and Hawks will meet for the first time ever on Friday. Hartford returns 11 letterwinners and eight starters from last years squad that finished with an overall record of 8-6-5 overall.

Last season, Wyoming opened up the season at Western Michigan and lost 3-1. Before coming to Laramie, the Broncos will play their first regular season game of 2009 at Northern Colorado.

Wyoming began the season last week against Denver and fell short 1-0. Senior Emily Layton and freshman Olivia Mohtadi led the Cowgirls with three shots each.

On Sunday, members of LSA/Blizzard, and other statewide soccer organizations, including the Olympic Development Program, will be invited to attend. Following the game, there will be a BBQ hosted for all soccer players in attendance and their families, as well as an autograph session with Cowgirl players and Pistol Pete. All players receive free admittance when they wear their game uniform.
