UW tennis to host Air Force

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will kick off the Mountain West Conference season this weekend at home, hosting Air Force Academy on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the UW Tennis Complex. Admission is free and there will also be an opportunity to get a free t-shirt.

“We look forward hosting conference rival Air Force,” said head coach Kati Gyulai. “It’s been a match we’ve been preparing for all season. We are coming off after a couple of good wins last weekend, and we want to build on the momentum. We hope for a large crowd at the match and hope to feed off that energy.”

The Cowgirls are 3-5 after taking two of three matches last weekend. Wyoming is currently led by sophomore Carly Van Hollen, who comes in with a 13-7 record and a seven match winning streak. Sarah Summerfield is 12-8 overall, while Rebecca Berger is 11-8.

Air Force is 9-8 overall this season. This is the 16th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 9-6. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 3, 2008, as the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons 5-2 in Colorado Springs. They are coached by Kim Gidley who is in her 11th season with the program.
